can no longer afford to abandon the destiny of our great nation to people who
have no genuine desire to serve."
These are the words
of this great man, Dr. Jerry Sonny Ugokwe. A man of principal and purpose,
committed to service to his people and the nation in general.
Born in Jos
(Northern Nigeria) on the 14th day of April 1957. He had his
University education at the prestigious University of Nigeria Nsukka and his
Masters Degree in Construction Management at the University of Lagos before
proceeding to the United States of America where had had his M.B.A. and PH.D.
Service to the
people is not a new thing to him for he was while in school, the Secretary
General, Students Union, University of Nigeria, Financial Secretary, National
Union of Anambra State Students, Chairman, Students Wing, Nigerian Peoples
Party (NPP). While in the United States of America: President African
Foundations USA, Dallas, Texas, President, Organisation of Nigerian Nationals
(ONN), USA.
He is a member of
many professional bodies and have received many awards for his contribution
and service to his community among which are; African Foundation, USA,
Community Leader of the Year Award, Atlantic Leadership Award, Legislator of
the year 1999 and many others.
In keeping with his
promise to serve, he has sponsored or co-sponsored many bills
and has moved many motions among which are:

A bill for a law
granting status to a citizen of Nigeria in a State other original state of
origin.

A bill for a law
making it mandatory to try and punish any one who takes over government by
use of force irrespective of how long it takes to return to democracy.

A bill for
establishment of a second Law School in the former premises of the Nigerian
Law School in Lagos.

A bill for a Law
Authorizing the President to sign pacts with foreign Nations to invite
foreign intervention in the event of any military coup.

A bill for a law
creating a Social Security Identification System for every Nigerian.

A bill for a law
prohibiting membership of a cult or gang in all Nigerian schools.

A motion for
emergency attention on the menace of erosion and flood disaster in some
parts of the country

A motion on the
recall of Suspended/Rusticated Student Union Leaders of Obafemi
Awolowo University, Ife in the interest of Peace, Justice and Democracy.

A motion for the
removal of the statute of a soldier in the center of the Three Arms Zone,
Abuja.

A motion for
Nigerian Government to make a formal retrieval request of all stolen money
in foreign countries.
Dr. Jerry Sonny
Ugokwe has been a man of his word and as we march on in the sands of
democracy, we know that at the end of it all, his footsteps will remain in
the sands of time for all to see and emulate.
His marriage is
blessed with three children. |
